WOODY
WOODYDrum instructor based in Kansai, Japan
WOODY is a Japanese drum instructor based in Kansai, with main studio in Kobe and additional locations in Osaka and Kyoto. He grew up with absolute pitch, trained from early childhood at Yamaha Music School, and continued through high school as a session drummer.
He graduated from Kyoto University of Education, where he wrote a research thesis on drum pedagogy and earned a teaching license. He has taught 500+ students of all ages and nationalities at leading Kansai music schools.
His teaching philosophy: clarity for beginners, depth for professionals — both in the same lesson, always.
Distilled from teaching 500+ students, grounded in motor-learning theory from a Faculty of Education.
"Hit it like this" doesn't stick. We explain why the body should move that way, every time, in language a child could understand.
Nine out of ten beginner problems are caused by tension. The first 30 minutes of every first lesson are about getting the body to release.
Not "you can't play 8th-note rock"; rather, "your right hand is rushing, your left foot is dragging." Specific problems have specific solutions.
The last 10 minutes of every lesson is for playing your favorite song. Motivation only comes from joy. Lose joy, lose motivation. Always.
