Four teaching principles

Distilled from teaching 500+ students, grounded in motor-learning theory from a Faculty of Education.

01

Always say "why"

"Hit it like this" doesn't stick. We explain why the body should move that way, every time, in language a child could understand.

02

Start with relaxation

Nine out of ten beginner problems are caused by tension. The first 30 minutes of every first lesson are about getting the body to release.

03

Decompose the problem

Not "you can't play 8th-note rock"; rather, "your right hand is rushing, your left foot is dragging." Specific problems have specific solutions.

04

Keep the joy

The last 10 minutes of every lesson is for playing your favorite song. Motivation only comes from joy. Lose joy, lose motivation. Always.

Common questions

I'm a complete beginner. Is that OK?

Yes. Most of our students started without ever holding a stick. We start from grip, seat height, and a simple first pattern.

Is there any pressure to enroll?

No. The trial is for checking fit. You can decide later, and there is no sales pressure.

Do you teach in English?

Yes. WOODY speaks conversational English. About 5–10% of our students are international residents in Japan, and many are taught in English.

Cancellation policy?

Reschedule or cancel free of charge up to 8 days before. Within 7 days, the lesson counts as used.

Can I take lessons from outside Japan?

Yes — through online lessons. We have students in Tokyo, Hokkaido, and a few overseas locations.
